Weymouth Carnival has been cancelled this August due to lacking approvals and funding according to the organisations Facebook Page.

In a statement on the page, a spokesperson for Weymouth Carnival said:

” Unfortunately, Weymouth Carnival is not happening this August as originally planned.

We have worked hard to bring the carnival back but we were unable to secure the necessary approvals and funding. We appreciate all the support so far and we will continue to engage with the local council, local businesses and communities in Weymouth to BRING BACK the CARNIVAL in the future.

We are actively working to organise an alternative event in August 2024.

All donations we have raised will be carried forward to the future events.

All stall holders will be contacted soon for a FULL REFUND.

The organisation including the dance and set company will continue to operate as normal.

We will keep you posted with any updates. “

In a further statement on the Weymouth Carnival website the organisers have said:

” It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of Weymouth Carnival for the year 2024. Unfortunately, Weymouth Carnival is not happening this August as originally planned. We understand the disappointment this may cause and want to extend our sincerest apologies to all those who were eagerly anticipating this event.

We have worked tirelessly to bring the carnival back to life, but regrettably, we were unable to secure the necessary approvals and funding to make it happen this year. Despite our best efforts, certain challenges have proven insurmountable within the time frame available.

We want to express our deepest gratitude for all the support we’ve received thus far from the local council, businesses, and communities in Weymouth. Your enthusiasm and dedication have been truly inspiring, and we remain committed to working closely with you to bring back the carnival in the future.

Although Weymouth Carnival will not take place this August, we are actively exploring alternative event options for 2024. We are determined to offer the community a memorable experience, and we will keep you updated as plans progress.

We want to reassure everyone that all donations raised for this year’s carnival will be carried forward to future events. Additionally, we will be contacting all stall holders promptly to arrange full refunds.

Despite this setback, we want to assure you that our organisation, including the dance and set company, will continue to operate as usual. We remain dedicated to our mission of bringing joy and entertainment to the Weymouth community.

We understand that this news may be disappointing, but we remain optimistic about the future. We will continue to engage with you, our valued supporters, and keep you informed of any developments.

Kallum Gethins, Director & Chairman said: “As Director and Chairman of Weymouth Carnival, I want to personally express my regret over the cancellation of this year’s event. It is truly disheartening to deliver this news, especially after the immense effort that has been put into planning and preparation.”

“Despite our best endeavors, we encountered obstacles beyond our control that prevented us from moving forward with the carnival as planned. However, I want to assure you that we remain steadfast in our commitment to revitalising this cherished tradition in the future.

“I am incredibly grateful for the unwavering support we’ve received from the community, and I want to extend my deepest appreciation to each and every one of you. Your passion for the carnival is what drives us to continue our efforts, and I am confident that together, we will overcome these challenges.”

“We are exploring alternative event options for 2024 and remain optimistic about the opportunities that lie ahead. I urge you to stay connected with us as we navigate this journey, and I promise to keep you informed every step of the way.”

” Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued belief in the spirit of Weymouth Carnival.
