Dorset Fire has responded to a fire at Morrisons Petrol station on Dorchester Road Weymouth. It is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault, on a motor home filling up with fuel at the time.

Staff quickly responded and hit the emergency stop button, which is a safety measure that kills all of the pumps on the forecourt.

There were no injuries reported to either staff or members of the public during the blaze.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said:

“We were called at 9.11 am this morning to Dorchester Road, Weymouth. Two crews from Weymouth and one from Dorchester attended the incident which involved a campervan fire within the fuel pump area of a petrol station.

Six breathing apparatus wearers used main lines and a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire – our stop came at 10.11 am. Crews will remain on scene to dampen down and check the petrol station’s roof for any hotspots.”

Morrisons spokesperson said: “Our petrol station will remain closed until further notice but thankfully no-one was hurt.  The main store is now back open too.”
